Blitz Build Sponsorship Opportunities FAQs

Home > Support Our Work

How many volunteers can we bring?

Our Volunteer Center can host 68 volunteers. For participants under the age of 18, you are required to provide at least one adult (21 or over) for every five (5) youth (1:5 adult to child ratio).

Do we need to bring experienced builders or skilled laborers?

It is not required, but skilled volunteers are always welcome.

Can we bring young children?

Yes, with adequate supervision. We encourage families to bring their children, no matter what the age. It is vitally important for children, even the youngest ones, to feel they are contributing to the mission of creating better housing for kids like themselves who may not have a decent place to live. We encourage couples to share the responsibility of child care for the little ones so everyone in the family can be involved. Children age ten (10) and younger must be accompanied by their parent or guardian and must remain under the direct and constant supervision of a parent or legal guardian during their entire stay at Almost Heaven. Experience has taught us that parents who have children who are (10) and younger are not able to serve as a supervisor for other children.

Do we need to bring our own tools?

No, Habitat for Humanity will provide tools and necessary safety protection. You may bring them if you already own them, but no need to go out and buy them. If your group would like to bring hand or power tools as a donation, we are always looking to add good quality tools to our inventory.

Does Habitat provide transportation?

Because we want to be responsible stewards of your fees, the homeowners' payments, and the donations we receive, we try to put as much of these monies as we can directly into building houses. We have chosen not to invest in costly transportation for our volunteers. We believe this is another way you can serve our ministry - by providing your own transportation to and from the work site each day.

What does Habitat provide as part of the Blitz Build?

Habitat provides a fully developed building site, the necessary materials, and necessary sub-contractors and will obtain necessary building permits and inspections. We will provide meaningful opportunities for volunteers of all skill levels to have hands-on participation in the construction of the house alongside a skilled Habitat for Humanity House Leader and several qualified Construction Supervisors to oversee the week long Blitz Build. We will select a Partner Family with whom the Sponsor will build and send you information about them prior to your arrival. Habitat for Humanity will also provide an on-site First Aid station and water at the build site each day.

What is the sponsor expected to provide?

The Sponsoring organization agrees to provide regular contact with us leading up to the Blitz Build week, a minimum of 40 volunteers for Blitz Build week, and the funding requested to participate in a Blitz Build Sponsorship.

Will we be able to meet the Partner Family for which we are building the house?

Yes, you will not only be able to meet the family, but you will be working with the entire family out on the construction site each day. This is one of the many ways that a Blitz Build is different from a regular Workcamp. Because of the accelerated nature of a Blitz Build we ask Partner Families that are selected for these builds to take the week off from work or school so that they can be active participants in the Blitz Build. We have found that lasting bonds of friendship are created between the Blitz Build sponsors and their Partner Family during this week.

Can Habitat for Humanity help us with fundraising?

Although we cannot raise the funds for you, we have many exciting fundraising ideas that have proven successful for other Blitz Build groups that we would be more than happy to share with you.

What if we can’t raise the money in time?

If you are not able to raise the money, Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity will convert your reservation into a regular Workcamp reservation. You will be responsible for the regular Workcamp fees for 60 people for that week ($150 per person X 60 people = $9,000). Any additional money raised can be donated to Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity. Your work week with us will then be just like a regular Workcamp week.

Can we simultaneously sponsor more than one house during a Blitz Build week?

Yes, but this unique experience typically requires two or more building lots that are side-by-side or adjacent to each other which may not be available during every building season. If you are interested in a multiple house Blitz Build please give us a call.
